David Busch's Sony Alpha SLT-A65 Guide to Digital Photography (David Busch's Digital Photography Guides) Details
From the Author Written specifically for the Sony SLT-A65! Although they share some features, the new Sony Alpha SLT-A65 camera is very different from its upscale cousin, the SLT-A77. That's why I decided it was important to write this book, dedicated exclusively to the A65 model, rather than try to lump the two into a single book. Wouldn't you rather have a book written specifically for your camera, describing its controls, menus, and features, rather than a hodge-podge that attempts to cover both? For example, the two cameras have different control dials and controls, LCD displays, and autofocus systems. Their menus have different options and features. Yet, clearly, the A65 is an enthusiast's camera, and deserves its own book written for advanced photographers like you. But what if you're not an enthusiast -- but hope to become one, or simply want to take better pictures? In that case, you really need this book written specifically for your camera to show exactly how to use every feature and option of the A65. If you're in love with photography, but so far haven't been in love with learning to use cameras, let me help you get the most from your A65. My Sony SLT-A65 Guide to Digital Photography is divided into four parts. Part I, "Getting Started with your Sony SLT-A65" includes three chapters that will help you set up your camera, start shooting great pictures and movies in minutes, and explain each control, button, and dial, and how to use them. I guide you through every menu option and offer advice on what each does -- or does not do -- and when you should, or should not, use a particular setting. Rather than simply re-hash the Sony manual, I provide a wealth of useful tips. Part II, "Beyond the Basics," has three chapters that show you how to use the A65's amazing exposure modes, including Sweep Panorama and 3D Sweep Panorama. There's an entire chapter on using the A65's lightning-fast autofocus with 15 focus points (including three cross type sensors) to get sharp images every time. You'll find a chapter on advanced shooting techniques, including stack focus, and working with GPS, WiFi, smart phones and tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire. In Part III, "Advanced Tools" The A65's translucent mirror technology takes you to the next level in movie-making, and I've written a full chapter on the camera's video features, with plenty of shooting tips for those new to movie shooting. Another chapter shows you how to choose and use lenses, with an analysis and review of the most important lenses available for the A65, and there's a chapter on working with available light and flash. Read Part IV, "Enhancing Your Experience," to pick up tips for choosing software for your A65, and a chapter on troubleshooting and maintaining your camera. The software advice is strictly an overview; I don't pad this book out with Photoshop how-to lessons that show you how to correct mistakes you made while shooting. This entire book is dedicated to helping you get the shot you want in the camera. Whether you're a dSLR owner who is switching to the Sony SLT-A65, a would-be enthusiast who wants to learn all of the camera's great features, or a beginner who wants to learn the basics of photography while mastering the Sony SLT-A65, sit down with me and we'll explore this camera together. I am the typical user advised not to buy this camera. I, up to now, only took photos in Automatic but wanted to learn and become more of a photographer. Almost immediately after buying the camera set off with my wife on a lengthy trip to Singapore, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. We took a very high number of pictures and mainly due to shooting through moving Bus and Helicopter windows ended up deleting almost 30%. The quality of the remaining pictures ran from outstanding to passable. At the time this book wasn't available but when pre-order was possible I did and am over joyed with what I found. Within a few pages capabilities were made available to me I didn't know existed. The explanations along with camera in hand were easy to follow and I know I will now be able to put the camera to much better use than was possible before. I know a one time read is not enough but I am persistant and will take this to a whole new level thanks to continued use of this book. I highly recommend it and believe just about anyone would find it of value. I know there will be those who will say all this information is available in the manual supplied with the camera but then I would believe they hadn't read the book from start to finish.
