David Busch's Nikon D7000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography (David Busch's Digital Photography Guides) Details

From the Author The Third Most Important Digital Camera Nikon Has Ever Introduced? In my blog entry that lists Nikon's 10 top digital camera introductions, I ranked the new Nikon D7000 at #3.  I was absolutely blown away by this camera's resolution, high ISO performance, and abundance of advanced features.  It made other models costing as much as $600 more instantly obsolete. That's why I decided that, rather than rush to be first on the shelves with a cursory overview of the D7000, I would take a few extra months putting together this comprehensive, 550-page guide that answers all the questions that both beginners and advanced amateurs will have about this sophisticated camera.  If you're serious about photography, you need:Detailed coverage of the D7000's autofocus features.  Learn how to choose focus modes and zone selection methods to snap into sharp focus every time.  You'll find explanations of exactly how phase detection and contrast detection work, and step-by-step instructions for using pro techniques like trap focus and stack focus.  I included a full-page focus chart you can use to eliminate front-focus and back-focus problems with individual lenses.Essential advice on settings options.  You need more than just a recap of menu options and settings.  You want advice on when you should use (or not use) each option.  I've included three full chapters (140 pages) of tips so you can set up your camera with confidence.  If that's not enough, a fourth chapter includes ten pages of tables with my recommended Shooting and Custom menu settings for the most common situations, such as indoor and outdoor sports, landscapes, portraits, long exposures, etc.A full chapter on shooting D-Movies and Live View.  My tips go beyond just the camera controls to show you how to get better movies and audio using storyboards, establishing shots, close-ups, two-shots, and more.  Get the most from your D7000's full HD video capabilities.First-hand experience with the full array of Nikon lenses for the D7000.  I own and use virtually every lens in the Nikon line, and have summarized my recommendations on a full chapter that evaluates the available lenses, and describes both the "old" and "new" Magic Trio -- a triad of must-own do-everything optics. The latest technology. I'm always looking at new stuff, like Eye-Fi cards, GPS, and smartphone/tablet apps, and provide the latest news in my books.Entire chapters on exposure and histograms, flash and other topics. Improve your photography skills as you learn to use your D7000.I know you'll enjoy using your new D7000 as much as I have.  Sit down with me and let me show you how to get the most from your camera.  And if you need a camera-bag-friendly guide to take with you everywhere, I have written a Compact Field Guide for this camera, too. Reviews

This is definitely THE missing manual to have for the D7000. One of my colleagues recommended it and I could not possibly like it more. Not only is it a how-to-operate the camera (which has more features than I can even count much less understand using the provided "manual" from Nikon), it is a how-to-use the camera to take the best photos possible. It has been some years since I have used a camera in a serious way, and this book is helping me brush up on my understanding of depth of field, using lenses to their best advantage, etc. All the things that I have forgotten in the years since I quit using film cameras. The book is beautifully produced on nice heavy paper, is well organized and easy to follow, with lots of large color photos and half page menu displays (unlike the microscopic ones in Nikon's manual). The book is a beast though, so I recommend getting the companion field guide, which is just the right size for throwing in your camera bag. It will be some time before I get all the settings and options gathered and organized in my brain, or perhaps I never will, so each book will be a great resource.
